PSTN voice quality is delivered to the multi-tenant units (MTUs) by simply extending voice circuits from the TDMoIP service POP to the customer premises over IP networks. The telephony switch,
IPmux gateway and IP access device work together to provide voice services and high speed Internet access using a single IP access facility. The voice switch provides local switching and statistically consolidates many voice lines to fewer ports on the
IPmux gateway to reduce bandwidth requirements. Simple, transparent support for Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS) ensures that tenants can continue to use their legacy telephones and key systems with full support for V.90 modems, V.34 faxes as well as 911, * and other voice services. At the IP service POP, routers, rather than the traditional and more expensive TDM-based cross connects, are used to separate Internet traffic from TDMoIP packets. This network architecture simplifies provisioning while providing flexibility and scalability.
