Profiting From Effective Employment of Carrier Ethernet for Mobile Backhaul

The rapid roll-out of mobile broadband services such as HSPA is causing mobile operators to reconsider their backhaul strategy. Despite an increase in subscriber usage and an exponential growth in data traffic, average revenue per user remains flat. The decoupling of cellular revenue from subscriber traffic means that operating expenses will have to be cut dramatically to insure profitability. Since E1/T1 lines don't scale economically, mobile operators are looking for a lower cost per bit alternative for their backhaul. Eitan Scwhartz, Vice President Pseudowire and Ethernet Access, RAD Data Communications Inc., describes in the power point presentation how both mobile operators and transport providers can benefit from implementing Carrier Ethernet as a backhaul network for cellular data and voice traffic.
