The ML-IP is a three-port Ethernet uplink module for Megaplex modular multiplexers. The Megaplex integrates multiple, dedicated voice, ISDN, video, LAN and data channels onto E1/T1 trunks. The ML-IP module enables the Megaplex to transparently deliver legacy services over IP/Ethernet networks. It empowers RAD’s TDMoIP solutions with by adding a vast variety of voice and high and low speed data interfaces.
Standard Ethernet connectivity of the ML-IP module allows it to work opposite other 10/100BaseT or 100BaseF Ethernet equipment, including RAD’s IPmux family of TDMoIP gateways, thereby incorporating Megaplex multiplexers into corporate or campus IP networks.
Megaplex equipped with ML-IP can be deployed at a main site to provide TDM voice and data services to multiple sites over an IP network. It can also operate at a local site level, opposite an IPmux-16 at the main site, for extending digital PBX services to other sites over IP.
The uplink ports of the ML-IP module feature RAD’s Resilient Fast Ethernet Ring (RFER) technology, which constructs self-healing 100 Mbps Fast Ethernet fiber or copper rings, with resiliency similar to that of STM-1 [STM-1/OC-3] networks. In case of link failure on any segment of the ring, RFER reroutes the TDMoIP traffic within 50 milliseconds, fast enough to maintain required voice quality.
RFER enables enterprises, campuses, power companies, transportation companies and utilities to create highly reliable networks using dark fiber or dry copper in a ring topology. Survivability is further enhanced by RFER’s support for multiple rings, which eliminates the risk of single point of failure.
ML-IP’s resilient ring performance was tested and verified by an independent, well known European network test center. It was found to provide superb service resilience and voice quality, with proper prioritization of TDM traffic.
